Start It Up Delaware team wins 2015 Idea Challenge Idea Challenge: tech-based plans to improve city
Idea Challenge draws innovators and sizable crowd
The winning idea: solar-powered info beacons throughout the city complemented by quarterly events.

The large open space at 1313 Innovation was overflowing with people. They sat in groups and scribbled ideas on the dry-erase walls, doodled on large pads of paper, planned out scripts and gathered large stools and panda bean-bag chairs for props.

At one point, someone asked, “Can we turn the heat down in here?”

An Uber-like service that uses drones to deliver food to Wilmington residents. An app that rewards people for visiting local venues. A monorail that provides free transportation, as well as oral histories of the city.

Those were just a few of the pitches offered Wednesday by teams of educators, marketing leaders and tech gurus that competed in Technology Forum of Delaware's 2015 Idea Challenge. Fittingly, the event was held in the 1313 Innovation Center at the Hercules building on North Market Street, which Thursday celebrated its first year of providing office space and technological resources to high-tech startups.

A large crowd was on hand for the second annual Idea Challenge of the Technology Forum of Delaware.

The event featured teams that worked during the afternoon to develop and idea to improve the quality of life in the city of Wilmington with the help of technology and collaboration.

The event was held at 1313 Innovation, an incubator based in the Hercules Building in downtown Wilmington.

“We want to get our heads, spinning and our heart racing,” said Tech Forum board member, David Gates in introducing the competition.
